An aromatic, savoury, and delicious dish, sesame oil chicken is a staple in most Asian homes. Loaded with fragrant sesame oil and ginger, this homely dinner definitely brings back fond memories at the family dining table. The recipe we have for you today is a considerably healthier version, with the addition of lots of vegetables and slightly less oil than usual.

*Serves 4

  • 750 g Boneless Chicken Thigh, without skin and cut into 1-inch chunks
  • ½ tsp Sea Salt
  • ½ tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 ½ Tbsp Cooking Oil
  • 200 g Broccoli Florets, chopped
  • 100 g Carrots
  • 2 tsp Sesame Seeds, toasted
  • 1 sprig Spring Onion, chopped

Ingredients for Sauce:

  • 6 Tbsp Chicken Broth
  • 3 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Fish Sauce
  • 2 tsp Sesame Oil
  • 1 tsp Black vinegar
  • 1 tsp Five Spice Powder
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp Ginger, minced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced

  1. In a large bowl, season chicken with salt and pepper. Set aside.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together sauce ingredients. Toss chicken in 1 Tbsp of the sauce and let it marinate for 10 minutes. Set aside sauce.
  3. In a pan on medium-high heat, heat 1 Tbsp avocado oil and sear chicken until brown. Remove chicken from pan and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, add ½ Tbsp avocado oil, broccoli and carrots. Stir-fry for 2 to 3 minutes until tender-crisp.
  5. Pour in remaining sauce. If you prefer a thicker sauce, add in cornstarch. Add cooked chicken back to the pan to reheat.
  6. Plate and garnish with toasted sesame seeds and green onions.
